Folklore of Cape Verde
Cape Verdean folklore was born in the half-light of evenings, when the wind dropped, the sea could be heard breathing, and people gathered to listen rather than look. Wolves lie, goats outwit kings, devils bargain badly, and the smallest creature often walks away the winner — not by force, but by words. Shaped by African oral tradition and Portuguese influence mixed in Cape Verdean reality, evolved by centuries of retelling, these tales were never meant to sit still. They change with each voice, each island, each night — and that is how they stay as alive as mesmerising.
